Rear footrests

I removed the rear seat from the bike, planning to remove the rear foot rests also. Does anyone see a problem removing the protection plate that guards the rear drive shaft. The foot rest/ protection plate is all one piece....

I did that, don't see a problem. I'd just refrain from wearing a long scarf.
