Sorry folks ... the reverse does NOT use the starter motor ... it is a separate electric motor ... and the arc of gears is simply to get the mechanical connection from said motor to connect it to the out drive shaft. Yes, you do use the starter button ... but that one is reassigned by the ECU to the secondary (reverse) electric motor when the mechanical lever is activated that locks the transmission into neutral and engages the gears coming from the reverse motor to the outdrive shaft. It actually doesn't matter if you pull the clutch in or out while using the reverse ... the gear link is AFTER the clutch.
EDIT: .. so sales stop and all, I buy that ... this can be verified by a simple phone call and I trust the people (especially the Aussies) that posted that ... but, has there actually been an incident? I know there were a couple of folks here that had faulty modules ... that can happen ... but has ANY bike (only 1st hand accounts please) actually burst into flames or even come close?
