Recall? On all models with Reverse

Sorry folks ... the reverse does NOT use the starter motor ... it is a separate electric motor ... and the arc of gears is simply to get the mechanical connection from said motor to connect it to the out drive shaft. Yes, you do use the starter button ... but that one is reassigned by the ECU to the secondary (reverse) electric motor when the mechanical lever is activated that locks the transmission into neutral and engages the gears coming from the reverse motor to the outdrive shaft. It actually doesn't matter if you pull the clutch in or out while using the reverse ... the gear link is AFTER the clutch.

EDIT: .. so sales stop and all, I buy that ... this can be verified by a simple phone call and I trust the people (especially the Aussies) that posted that ... but, has there actually been an incident? I know there were a couple of folks here that had faulty modules ... that can happen ... but has ANY bike (only 1st hand accounts please) actually burst into flames or even come close?

Definitely is a separate motor.

What if you do your own service? There’s some thought here that the dealer is responsible for performing known recall work, even if you’re in for another reason. So it’d be the same in the US, but if we opt to do our own work, the dealer doesn’t get hands on our machines.

But BMW will void the warranty if the machine is not serviced by a "Certified Authorised Technician"... legalise for - you take it to BMW or ta-ta bye-bye warranty...

With you on that... $1,868.00 AUD for an additional 3 years of servicing atop the 5yrs I already purchased means I get 8yrs/80,000K of servicing gratia. In real terms it won't start until 2029 and when CPI is factored in, that package is probably worth closer to $2,113.00 to me, with no depreciation to the value of the alternative accessories.

Yeah, kind of a dismal offering if it’s not even BMW bucks in general, but has to be specific to the R18. Maybe an option 719 seat? The case liners (which have been pretty useful!)? But if you’ve already got what you want, that compensation is pretty useless. Hopefully there’s something more substantial or helpful coming in the official notice.

Don't bother about the case liners. Bought the same ones (minus the BMW or Wunderlich logos) from ebay for 1/3 the price. When I say the same - I literally mean the same, from the same factory in [surprise, surprise, surprise] - China!

Oh no kidding?? I’m always suspicious of the “no name” stuff, but yeah, it’s not like BMW has a dedicated factory churning out the bags. It makes sense.

Do you have a photo of yours and or a link to an eBay set? Thanks in advance!
 
just to chip in .... I've used the BMW recall search page (BMW) to find that my R18 BL 2023 does not have a recall listed. So that's a NSW (AU) registered bike, with reverse and adaptive headlight.

strange huh?
 
Mine (Qld) is the same - but rest assured, book it in with BMW for a service and they promptly inform you of the Reverser deactivation. Headlight is only if/when it buggers-up (like mine did from Sydney to Brisbane).

Same with my 2023 Classic when I tried the VIN. I wrote BMW about it and the lady replied to send her the VIN. I'm guessing they don't have the most recent VINs added?

I ended up using the $1,000 credit to order the Roland Sands machined mirrors which are a little over $500 and the LED mini flashing turn indicator, front - Part Number 77512469302 ($482) for my Transcontinental.
 
BMW is no stranger to price gouging. They wanted almost $5k to replace the timing chain on my 3 series. I was researching prices on spare parts, and on several things I checked, BMW averaged about 5x the price for similar parts compared to Harley.
