Keep hearing of $1000+ in accessories being given for the issue. Interested to see what they offer in Canada. Took bike in today.

Hi, I enquired with BMW Motorrad about the reverse gear recall. There is one which is to do with the module and possible water ingress causing corrosion and loss of function. Apparently all they do is disconnect the 2 wires in the module to fulfil the 'recall' and you lose your reverse!!!!
There is no permenant 'fix' as yet which sucks, my dealership is 170 miles away in Bristol and I need to get it there at my own expense, so much for superior engineering. As I don't take mine out in the wet and we are not in a high humidity climate am thinking of ignorinf=g it as it isn't a safety issue.
Any idea which 2 wires are disconnected? And can we reconnect them ourselves after BMW do their obligatory deactivation?

Is the 3 year free servicing the basic just oil one... normally $785 or the full one.... normally $1868 (valve clearances, air filter, fork oil etc)?..... when buying them there are 2 types at different prices in Aust where we are.
Full servicing. I just got the 3yrs to add to my inital 5yr purchase.... now I'm good for the next 8 years.

The disconnection is not compulsory as far as I understood from the shop manager, however, you won’t have a leg to stand on if something happens after BMW offered you to have the part disconnect.
I suspect that if they disconnect the module and you reconnect it yourself and something goes wrong then you will be in a pickle as well.

Not a choice. Been informed by BMW Australia, that BMW head office (Germany) has mandated that ALL R18's fitted with the reverser SHALL be deactivated (irrespective of country).

10 and you get a new bike, hmmm 10 x $1,868.00 = $18,680.00 --- not getting a new R18B or Transcontinental for that money. Mine cost me $44,000.00 AUD + on roads and servicing package
Got my fully loaded FE + quite a few extras for just about that .... Now is that 44000 Aussie Dollars? Then judging by an earlier post ... That would be just under 20000 US ....

So where is this reverse module located?
Are they actually removing it or just disconnecting wires?
Any technical info would be really appreciated...

Anyone notice anything different after reverse deactivation? I had mine deactivated, along with a software update, and now I’m getting a humming from both subwoofers when I shut the power off. It only lasts 5 seconds or so. I cleaned the fuse contacts with contact cleaner, and replaced the 15, 20 and 50 fuses. The subs work when the radio is on. The only two I didn’t replace were the 2 mini fuses that are covered together. Any other ideas as to why this may be happening?

Looks like I've got the recall applying to my bike.
I'm bummed out a bit as I do like to use the reverse occasionally.
I'll call the number and see what BMW tells me to do. Is that what you guys have done or did you just go to your local dealer?

I took the First Edition in yesterday to have the Reverse recall applied; the dealership is going to circle back with me on Tuesday, on the process of applying the $1,000 towards a new 719 seat for my Model B.

I have an appointment next Saturday to have the recall applied to the Model B; however, I'm probably going to cancel as I also use the Reverse functionality after each ride.

I took a closer look at what the dealership did to disable the Reverse function; it looks like they removed the power cable between connection 2 and the 12 V input terminal on the reverse motor; they actually took or physically removed the cabling... Below is a comparison of the Maintenance diagram and an actual picture of my 2021 FE. I might open up the Model B and take some pictures of what an "Enabled Reverse" wiring group looks like for comparison (weather pending ride-wise today...)

A $1,000 of parts is like $87 of BMW cost to them.
Absolutely correct, shameful and without respect to dedicated BMW owners time and inconvenience. Let alone our confidence level in the R18 model amid rapidly declining values. I was one of the first buyers of a new 2021 FE and paid about double for my bike than today's dealer prices.
