Took the bike to San Jose BMW for 1 yr service since it was sitting in garage and collecting dust almost for 8 months now and still at 3912 miles. But that SERVICE NEEDED warning message on the screen was scaring the prospective buyers. So I took it out, wiped the dust off, cleaned spider webs and off we go.
At service I've been told they HAVE to DISABLE the reverse before they hand me the bike back.
Also they took care off the headlight recall issue and change whatever part is needed to be replaced.
When I asked what will happen with the reverse function, I've been told that BMW has no solution to the issue yet but at the moment they ordered to all services for immediate disablement of the reverse function. They are hoping to find a solution in the future with no known date yet...
I've left the dealership filled with confidence and self assurance knowing that bunch of engineers in Germany losing their sleep and working day and night to solve the issue that inconvenienced us.
So now my 900+ lb bike has no reverse and I don't know how it will effect its sale...
I dropped the price to $14,500 for it and still not a lot of interest and the only person who was interested a little bit was told this issue and he said "thank you but I need to think more about this, I'll call you"...
Dealership told me our generous(!) mother BMW is offering up to $1000 credit towards accessories for R18TC for the inconvenience this reverse issue caused...
Unfortunately their parts department confirmed that the most crap worth to put on this thing is costing more than $1000... Like a different seat, or Billet valve covers etc etc. So basically BMW's solution to the inconvenience is for us to spend more $$$ on the bike they couldn't make it right in the first place and currently no solution to fix it.
Interesting thought process from friendly Germans...
To me, BMW's solution is felt like me buying a 5 carat diamond ring to the cheating wife I am trying to divorce!
Oh well. Let's see how this episode will end?Ayne
