Rusting Rear Fender

I just noticed the paint is starting to peel in the bottom lip of the rear fender on my r 18 B and showing some rust > Has anyone had this experience?

Thank goodness that BMW became tight arses in 2025 and gave the updated models plastic front & rear fenders. I’m just wondering why the weight figures didn’t change

OK, just checked. No issues with my rear end, so to speak.

I took a look at my 2022 First Edition Model B; I didn't see any evidence of rust, but can definitely see how the edge of the fender can certainly become a problem down the road.

In the below image, you can see that there is a folded seam along the edge of the fender; I sprayed an aviation anti-corrosive oil to penetrate between the seam, then I sprayed a wax oil ("anti chain fling" type anti-corrosive spray) to seal up the seam as a preventative step:

I try to avoid riding in the wet stuff; which is basically unavoidable, but probably have the benefit of not getting winter road salt and such in my experience.

I'll probably add this to my annual preventative maintenance routine.

The wax oil is pretty gummy:
