Finally took delivery of my R18.
Long story, I purchased the bike two years ago but due to covid and other health and family issues I had to delay the transport and delivery of the bike to me from the midwest where the dealer kindly kept it in storage for me ( free of charge) until I was able to take delivery. I am in NYCity. That's not the point of this thread, but gives some color and background since I delayed delivery and I have been waiting to get on the bike. ( I have several other bikes also so it was not my only ride).
Here goes.
The bike is beautiful. I must say that as a life long Harley rider the best feature of this R18 to me is the fact that the center of gravity is so low to the ground ( with the the two low slung cylinder heads). It make the bike so stable. Truly Amazing. That is its best feature. I feel like I have "stabilizers" keeping the bike planted. Great stability. I feel the bike is also very smooth while giving just enough vibratory feedback to make it visceral. Perfect balance of vibration to smoothness.
Its a great ride, but I do feel that the feet being under the cylinder heads is a bit difficult to get used to and not ergo friendly. That is the worst "feature"
Overall , a beautiful piece of jewelry. Very well executed in design and fit and finish.
I bought the bike because I got an amazing deal on it. $11,500 brand new. I have to admit that at the original MSRP of $21,000 I would have never ever purchased the bike. At the First Edition MSRP price point, I would still rather have a Harley. But when I was offered the bike at $11,500 I had to take it !!
Very Very happy overall. MY first BMW. I own 2 Ducati and 6 Harleys and assorted other vintage bikes.
I think BMW priced the First Edition bikes way too high, BUT I believe that they had to in order not to degrade the brand. The "under the table" incentives were a smart way to keep the brand positioned well and high end, while still offering the bike at a more reasonable price.
