Spoke rims of the BMW R18 Classic for the BMW R18

Yesterday I replaced the front wheel of the R18 (original 19er 120 wide) with the spoke wheel of the Classic (original 16er 130). The dimensions at the back remain the same.
In my case, it was actually the case that you only have to swap the wheels at the front and rear. Fenders, axles and adapters are identical.
I am absolutely satisfied with the result. As a bobber she needs balloon tires in my opinion. I'm not a fan of 19 or 21 wheel in the front. But of course it's all a matter of taste.
BMW forgot to homologate the 16 front wheel rims of the Classic for the R18, I have to register that separately for the technical documents. But what about the term hobby: a lot of effort, little return, but happiness.
You can also see the prototype of the Spirit Leather tool roll in front with the Wunderlich tool roll holder. In case of interest, contact them directly (https://www.spirit-leather.de).

A full technical description you can find also in the repair Wiki www.r1800wiki.org

Where did you acquire the 16" front wheel?

Its about 1500 for the rim and its on back order.
Plus whatever the dealer overcharges for the tire plus about 2 hours labor.
I'll looking to go second hand. :)

I love the look of that (y) in my opinion the “skinny” front wheel makes the R18 look “chopper ish” which I personally don’t like. The fat front wheel just balances the bike so well visually:cool:

I understand that you like "the look". I'm interested in what you think about the performance of the 16" vs the 19". Any noticeable difference?

What do you think about the ride quality of the 16” ad compared to the 19”?
I test rode the base R18, Classic & Bagger before buying the Classic. The Classic with the higher front tire sidewall is marginally more compliant over bumps. Not enough to buy to replace for ride quality alone. I preferred the look of the Classic’s wheel & tire, so I bought the Classic. I can strip the windshield & bags off quickly & that’s how I mostly ride the bike, so mine is a Base R18 look most of the time..

Now that is a very personal thing to evaluate. I find the bike more stable and easier to ride but since I am not a fast rider (hell, we are in Germany and I do not like to go above 100 miles/h) my opinion might not be relevant.

For the visual aspect and now driving it for 3 months like this, it is great.

Mine currently is stock - R18 Deluxe.

I'm as much interested in trying to figure where they hid everything because there certainly isn't many obvious hiding spots
