This one works like a charm on my truck towing 25000 pounds. Technically, truck diff have a few more gears and few more bearings but principle is the same. I have 7 bikes in the garage and no issues for years.View attachment 11234
I love the buying in bulk approach. If only we could get BMW, in writing, to say 75W-90 is ok to use. 2.8 years from now, it won’t bother me at all to try something different…

All I can say is the two of my local BMW dealers user 75W-90 when they service the final drive and transmission. They do not use the official BMW oil.

Well I just finished changing the final drive oil ... with the Schaeffer's 75/90 ... I will let you know if it goes sideways ;)

When I did the first service myself the dealer sold me 75w-90 saying that’s what they used. I’m going by this week to get all the parts for the 10k service and will ask about using it for the transmission as well. $40 cdn per litre.

The dealer here in Montreal told me the samething for the tranny and final drive oil

fwiw - My dealer here in North Toronto uses 75w90 for Transmission/final drive in the R18s. My bike has been running this viscosity for 15000km without issue as they were the ones that serviced it last.

Hello everyone! I think we can all agree that the recommended oil for the transmission and rear differential is crazy expensive at $51 for 500ml. Not sure if it's made with unicorn tears, or whatever, but that is highway robbery.

My dealer said they use 75w-90 hypoid gear oil for all BMWs, including the R18s. What is everyone using?
Just ordered this Ravenol oil (made in Germany) on blauparts.com that meets BMW G3 spec...$23.95 for 1 Liter:
RAVENOL VGL API GL-5 LS SAE 70W80 gear oil for manual transmissions and bevel gears recommending BMW 83222413512 BMW Hypoid Axle Oil G3.

I have a Chrysler dealer near me so I’ll be ordering the Mopar 70w80 (68227765AB) as BMW is 59 minutes away from me and Amsoil is special order where I’m based.
