I think your headset has to be at least bluetooth 4.0 for the volume control to work. Maybe a firmware update on your headset or a newer model headset?
I am using a Schuberth C3 pro with the SRC com system. The only way I can change my volume is to use the buttons on the headset. I plan on updating my coms over the winter.

Congrats on the First Edition, I bought the exact same bike.
I hope you don't mind the hijack. I saw this older post about upgrading your bike comms this winter; have you, and if so, what system did you choose?
I'm in the same boat with having to upgrade and the choices are maddening, plus adding in possible BMW connectivity concerns.

The latest Sena 50 S/R headsets with the latest firmware allow BMW wonder wheel volume control on the TFT bikes.
