Send a pic f the R18 one, how you fit it, where from and cost please.
I haven't ridden the bike yet, so can't comment on them. From memory they were $20 each plus $20 postage..... but in $us..... so about $100 real money for 2 to my door.... cost was why I didn't pull the trigger last time... cashed up and boored at the moment....

Just lever off old one and push on new.... just need to be brave.

I find the original a bit "something lacking".... so finally just scratched the itch.... who knows if it was just a phanton itch. A minute ago I just bought an open face Bell helmet for no real good reason as well.... so best not look to me for meaningfull purchases/ideas.

Ok, I’ve looked at the pics and I’m not following how the new indicator switch is better.
Do a Pauline Hanson….

Well, I've now gone for a ride on my R18 with it, and I am not sure how the new indicator switch is better either (for me).

I can see how it might be better if you have a "wheel" between the grip and the switch cluster (ie thumb reach).... but I don't have that on either bike.

HOWEVER, I've not formed a "view" as of this moment.... as I am too analytical to be so frivolous as to post an "early finding"..... sometimes a new thumb action can take some time to become "better normal"..... so will give it 5 or so rides and see where it lands.

Whatever happens I've only invested the equivalent of a slab of "Coopers Stout" (none of that crappy fake stout for me.... ie 21st century Guinnes..... might as well be drinking Fosters and thinking it's good beer)

Now to do a Pauline (ie please explain?).... remember you asked for this...... the indicator button is much like the "toe/heel" lever(s)...... first off one has to state clearly ones "user requirement "..... so.....

Toe/Heel UR:
user 1: (me) size 10 shoe, doesn't ride in heavy boots, doesn't want to lift foot off board, just pivot off ball or heel to change up or down or up gears (quick'n slick), up change always via heel shift (no foot under front lever to shift up), like quick smooth shits for fast riding

user 2: rides in heavy boots, use to lifting leg to shift, cruising riding mostly

user 3: feels better toe shifting, occasional heel shifting, size 12 boots.....
etc etc.... I could do 6 to 8 or so of these.... all would end up with differently placed shift levers, extensions etc to optimise the R18 experience for that user.... some might not even find a good setup is possible.

User 4 to infinity and beyond....

now to the "indicator switch"

User A: wants to not have to semi rotate left hand around grip/thumb wheel to reach indicater switch (TC and Bagger etc)
User B (me): finds normal switch a bit fiddly.... could be better maybe? No wheel in the way though. Minor issue really...
User C: etc

anyway, I'm B and thought I'd gamble a carton on it.... (only because I don't have to go without a carton to gamble a carton......)

Whilst others will be impressed with your explanation, I am eating breakfast with a sly grin because I knew that you would be right onto the ‘Pauline Hanson’.
PS; it’s smooth “shifts”, not “shits”.
👍🏆😉😂

Haha!

I went back and looked at the "shit" thing..... didn't change it as I didn't want to jinx myself.... wouldn't want a "rough" shit on my next ride (wife is watching uTube videos on the quantum field and how what you think can make your reality.... so I'm extra careful now just in case).

Oh, you have also convinced me not to bother changing the indicator switch. This decision is based on your excellent and comprehensive review… you have now set a precedence for your responses 🤪🫣😳😉🤣

I have the indicator switch installed, just did a long ride today--made a big difference but as I said in an earlier post I have the wheel and I recommended it for any riders with a wheel. I don't have a wheel on my R Nine T and did not bother with moving the indicator closer to my thumb. I really felt like I was reaching before the change, now it feels natural.

Question….help…what is the best way to remove and install the switch? Do you pry it with a tool? Video would be helpful.

I couldn't find any instructions, but it's very simple--I used a flathead screwdriver with some tape over (so it didn't scratch anything) then push in as you pull up at the bottom of the switch, do each side carefully and it will lift up. The new one just pushes on...

Thank you, sir

Leaving the smooth shits thing aside, by sheer chance I've just ordered two as well - one to go straight on and a second as a spare. Cost me the AUD$ equivalent of a carton of Coopers sparkling ale. My first mod on the Transcontinental. I find the reach across the wonderwheel in gloves means I tend to nudge the wheel and stuff up whatever I'm not supposed to be watching on the TFT screen will riding. Its very early days but having spent three decades riding a K100 I miss the older style idicator paddles, one on each side. My recently deceased K1300 had the same new fandangled business of putting all the indicator switches into one switch system, also on the left hand side (but without the wonderwheel to contend with). Given my problem with old dogs, new tricks, and that wheel thingy, I felt moving the "button" a smidge closer to the grip will work nicely for me. Will report back once its on.

Edit: fitted, and seems to work nicely. Less accidental nudges of the wonderwheel.

Further edit: have done a fair bit or riding now and it works very nicely - no accidental nudges of the wonderwheel. Bottom line: maybe not for everyone but works for me.

Upper fork covers and first service are done, including new sports air filter.
The fork covers look brilliant (pics to come) and is it my imagination, but does the exhaust sound slightly louder, because it Snaps, Crackles and Pops a lot more now.
The service cost $350Aud and the air filter was fitted for free.

IMG_5730.jpegIMG_5729.jpegIMG_5728.jpegIMG_5727.jpegTook it for a ride with the new upper fork covers, which I think look great. As well as had a very comfortable ride with the reupholstered seat. I most enjoyed being able to open it up now that has finally had its first service and the Sports Filter has been installed.
I really can’t think of anything else it needs cosmetically.

Clearshield windshield installed and tested. In addition with the low deflectors, I am satisfied with the results. Just at 140km/h a little bit of buffeting but nothing dramatic. The installation wasn't easy, because the lack of instructions. I hope I made it ok, specially with the torque (adjusted in 2). That measure I took from the OEM windshield instructions...
