Temperature Gauge?

The setup procedure is explained page 47.
Go to setup, then to Set Display.
In french here of course.

As we say in french, "fausse joie "....
Just tried this morning.
The Display setting doesn't show the engine temperature as it should ...🙄

Very strange.
The manual shows we can display the engine temperature, but when passing from one displayto the other, it jumps from auto Day trip to Average speed, skipping the temp, and the distance run from reserve (which is normal) !
We may have to configure that in the Set-up.
Yes, I checked and it's what we need to do ! :)

You can turn off certain settings in that loop. Go into the SETUP and turn them back on.

Page 43 in the US Model Manual. It's the SET DISPLAY option.

This oil coolant screen talk got me thinking, and I've just confirmed: my R18 doesn't have engine temperature as a menu item. I've scrolled through everything several times, with the engine running and not. I've gone into all the menus and sub menus. I've reset everything. It's simply not there.

Further, the submenu for changing units doesn't have a Celsius or Fahrenheit option (as page 43 in the manual indicates).

I'm thinking that there's a software update? Any ideas? Internet search wasn't helpful and it looks like this hasn't been discussed here.

Do y'all have engine temp in your menus? Everything else is there, all that useless stuff like the dang date and average speed. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. View attachment 599
You probably have the TEMP option disabled in the SETUP DISPLAY menu option. See page 43 (US) of the manual.

According to a BMW tech here in Germany, BMW decided to not show the engine temperature in the display - I have to assume that this is because most people do not know what the correct temp range of an air-cooled engine is and would freak out when they see the values compared to a water-cooled engine. I don't know if there is an air-cooled cruiser on the market that offers a stock temprature gauge? My Harley Deluxe 2018 did also only warn you when it became too hot (never happened to me) - no temp gauge there either. I am ok with not having a temperature or fuel gauge.

My Ducati is air cooled with a separate oil cooling circuit like the R18. It has a temperature gauge. Granted, not a cruiser. But thanks for the info. It sounds like a decision was made to exclude it and not that there's a problem.

That is why they put "Idiot" lights in instead of gauges. People would freak out because the gauge showed 15 at idol and 45 at highway speeds. DUUUUH.
Did you know that all speedometers are designed to read 2% to 5% faster than actual speed traveled, check yours against your GPS.

My only temperature gauge my panhead had was rattling noise when it got too hot.

When I took my R18 for the first service, I asked to see if they could figure out the temp gauge issue. Long story short, nope.
Hopefully the temp warning light works properly.
