I would like to start a comprehensive list of the software versions for the Transcontinental. I will update this top post as new information comes in. I'll start us off with my information. Please post details about your version, the date you had the update, and your location (there may be different versions for various global markets). If anyone has any details on what was included in the updates, please post that as well. I purchased my TC in February 2023 and just had my initial service completed on 4/13/23. My S/W version was 012_008_040 at both occasions.

Do you know of any specific items that were improved from the previous version?
I updated from _11 version to the _13, i noticed the bluetooth reconnects for the music player after a stop without having to log back into the phone, but I heard that was updated in _12. I haven't noticed anything else but I don't use all the features on the TC TFT too much, mostly ride and listen to music.

There are other folks here who have noticed other improvements.

I have a 2022 BMW R 18 Transcontinental.
I ordered it from Sturgis Motorsports on 1/6/23 and it arrived on 2/20/23.
It has a build date of 08/21.
It has a S/W of 012, 008, 040.
It only has 11 miles on it, we've had snow on the ground since it arrived and haven't been able to ride it yet.
I live in Townsend, Montana..

Awesome. Thank you for the information!

Do you recall which S/W version the bike had prior to the update?
I believe my previous version was 011_007_035 and was original from when I picked up the TC in October 2021.
The upgrade to v013_013_020 was done during the 12k miles service last month.

Can any of our early adopters offer more information? Anyone performed more than one update? Any details of what was updated?

So I called my dealership today and had a talk with the service manager. I have an older version of the software, and when I took my bike in for the 600 mile break in service back in March, I asked him to update to the latest. He failed to do so, so I called him about it today to ask why not. He said it's not customary to update the software just for the sake of doing it, and that they usually recommend NOT updating it if you're not experiencing any problems or issues. What does everyone think about that philosophy? I had always just assumed that it was automatically a good thing to have the latest update. He said updating can CAUSE issues, and that once you update, you can't take it off and go back to an older version.

It's an interesting point. I record music and I often hold off on computer updates until long after any potential issues have been discovered and fixed. I would assume that a similar philosophy would be appropriate here.

This is part of why I wanted to begin this thread. The more information we have on release dates, issues, fixes, etc... the more informed we can be on these updates.

@aicpjim what S/W version are you running on your TC?

I can see if updates introduced a whole new operating system, holding off for future versions is prudent to allow time for developers to work out the bugs.

For the TC and Bagger, updates that are coming from the BMW are for known ECU and tech issues. They are updating something for a reason, and it's crazy that dealerships are saying, "We don't know what the update does, but we know you don't need it" because they don't want to connect the bike to Berlin and lock up a stall for however long it takes. It is equally ridiculous that BMW is making us go to dealers to get updates they don't want to do, in order to get a product we purchased to operate correctly/efficiently.

Let's say, for instance, that BMW pushes a fix to correct all the navigation issues (HA!) and the result is a 100% flawless experience. How would we know about it? Get it? Make the dealership do it - especially once out of warranty?

In this post (https://www.r18forums.com/threads/r18-b-tc-and-the-tft.561/post-24101) I reference my update to v013_012_050. The repair order for the update said ABS, AUDIO, DME, DWA, ESA, EWS, GM, GMS, KOMBI. The service writer was not familiar with all of the codes - or what parameters were changed.

At the time I was just hoping that the bike wouldn't start with the radio set volume at 50% - which still happens, even though I don't listen to the radio!

I love the bike, but BMW doesn't know shit about tech support, and it's a shame they're putting more of this garbage on their bikes.
