R18 First Edition
Hey everyone

She's listed on Cycletrader.

There's 70 or so photos at cycletrader.

Here's the description:

Low mileage 2021 First Edition with tasteful (and entirely reversible) modifications including WalzWerks bobber kit (adjustable saddle, rear fender, tail lights), WalzWerks headlamp lowering kit, and LMC black cylinder covers and matching oil cooler. So much better looking than the OEM oil cooler. That's over $6K in modifications. I also added a tool box from a 1969 Moto Guzzi Ambassador (original black paint/pinstripe/patina, a louder horn, a stubby Biltwell rear view mirror, a side license plate mount, and LV SHTUPP engine badges (for Lily Von Shtupp, the Bavarian Bombshell in Mel Brooks' Blazing Saddles.) Love me some Madeline Kahn.

Anyway, it's kept in a heated/insulated garage, started monthly, and the oil has been changed yearly. No mechanical issues. Brand new OEM battery March 2025. No bridges were burnt with the modifications, no wires severed, and all of the original oem parts convey with the sale, so it can converted back to stock---as much or as little---as desired.

Known Issues: 1) paint chip on the right side of the gas tank. I touched it up but it could be done better. See photo. 2) there's a recall to add a relay for the reverse gear. I just got the letter from BMW last week announcing that solution. I've never had a whiff of trouble with reverse but intend to have the recall done in the coming weeks. A new owner could do the same. 3) the WalzWerks tail end causes an electrical error light at the dash which goes away immediately when you ride. It's a nuisance and I just can't figure out how to fix it. 4) the mufflers are polarizing. I love 'em. They're curvaceous and dead-sexy, especially when viewed from the back. But many people can't stand them, which is fine, there are plenty after-market options available.

Also included with the sale is the Wheel Dock stand, an oil change wrench, and the First Edition box/book/stuff. Clean title, etc. I don't ride anymore and don't intend to allow any local test rides, so you can expect the mileage to sit at or near 2856.

Thank you for looking. It a ton of bike for a reasonable amount of money and will last decades. I'm happy to answer any questions or provide additional photos if needed.

* To this forum and it's members: it's been terrific and I deeply apppreciate the help and community over the years. I haven't ridden my R18, or any of my bikes, since, man, 2023? It's time to move on. I'm open to a little haggling for y'all.

I know this is a little late in the game for your bike; but was reading the issue with the lights & error indicator, where I'm getting ready to receive LMC parts and preparing to start wiring in the tail lights.

Below is what I came up with, by probing my existing R18; it basically looks like it comes down to a two wire system (not four - however, the OEM wiring has extra wiring, maybe European standard)?

Sorry you're not riding it anymore. That is an incredible deal. Beautiful mods. Not sure if I'm glad or upset you're on the other side of the country.

Very nice, how is the comfort level of that saddle? Beautiful build.
Lilly Von Schtupp had so many great lines in that movie. It's twue! It's TWUE!!
What's your height, and how does the bike fit you?

Thanks. I only have about 500 miles in the saddle. It was fine, not great. No lumbar support and not much by way of padding. It's not for touring. Regarding fit, for me the current arrangement is fantastic. I'm 6' with 35" arms...well, shirt size anyhow. Who measures their arms? I thought about changing to a more straight track bar handlebar (a la the prototype), but the reach would be awkward. As is, it's neutral, natural. There's a little forward and backward adjustability in the saddle too.

More than just the error light, the WalzWerks tail end should light yellow when signaling and red when braking. Mine is always red. Flashing, braking, always red. That loss of functionality is as annoying as the dang error light. Good luck

The stock R18 (USA version) appears to only use two wires vs the four that the stock tail lights are pre-wired with; I'll play around with the wiring this weekend, maybe introduce the GS-911 and see if I can unlock additional functionality...

I'll also test the tail light by itself and see if it supports other colors in addition to just red; note, the red running lights operate at 3.5 V and the directionals and brake lights operate at 13.5 V (Brighter).

My guess is that there is a difference between the European and NAS light standards..

I tested one of the Directionals and determined that it is simply a two wire system (Red Color only); Brown is Ground and the adjacent wire (Blue-Green LHS) or (Black-White RHS) is the (+) Positive input 3.5V (Running Lights) - 13.5V, depending on the function (Running Lights, Brake Lights or a Turn Signal). The Yellow and Grey wires are not terminated within the Directional light housing (no connection).

I hope this clears things up for folks integrating new tail lights; I'm not sure at this point if the Yellow and Grey color wires can be activated or enabled via the GS-911, that is something I'll have to play with once my LMC parts arrive.

Hey everyone. Lots of nibbles and a couple offers but not sold yet. If anyone is on the fence, best make yourself known. I'm not looking to drag this out.

Mann...!!! I still can't believe this bike hasn't sold yet..?

I'm getting everything together in order to sell my bike and feel like I'm going to be completely upside down on it...

Well, let's see. Four offers, all for less than my asking price. I reluctantly accepted one. He agreed. And then ghosted. I contacted one of the others. And all of sudden, not so interested. I have no idea. It's but a buyers market I guess. At the end of the day, I imagine I'll be in someone's amazing R18 find story. It'll be like can you believe it? I found a hardly used first edition in this old guys garage! He's been changing the oil yearly for 10 years and hasn't driven it a mile!

Yeah, that'll be me.

Oh well

Update:

The recall work is done.

The error light on the dash is still a thing. And it goes away as soon as you put it into gear. So exactly how much a thing it is up for debate.

She's still for sale but I'm a little less willing to bargain. Didn't get me anywhere and am kinda weirdly content just having it sit in my garage.
