Right side trip panel (covers toolkit) popped off

ok, I ran the pigtail and tucked it neatly behind the tool holding cover (pic 1), then made it accessible by wrapping the rain cover around the top (pic 2) then instead of the zip ties, I found an old Garmin bike computer tether and wrapped it around the top right corner tab on the cover, (pic 3) and screwed the anchor end into the top most mounting screw of the tool holder (pic 4). I don't think it will hold it for a long time, but it will hold it long enough to flop around and hit my leg before I'm out another $200 lol. Fingers Crossed!

My right panel popped off. $500 to replace. I didnt see this thread but came up with a similar solution. I thought about using a wire cable like in this post, but went with a heavy string instead. My thought is that if that panel pops off and somehow snags or catches, the string might break rather than damaging the attachment point to the bike.

yep lost mine as well and got a replacement from BMW Motorrad, now before i give you part numbers, when i got the replacement it only came in matt black, not the shiny black that was the lost one, but, when i put it on it looked better so ordered the other side and i think it looks better, a trick for making them fit better, order new grommets as well - push grommets in so they click in place then just swivel them to make sure they are bedded right - once you have done all 4 just pull the metal tabs towards you slightly - as when you push to click on the plastic body the you can really push and it will bed properly - part numbers Grommets 44 63 1 453144

There was a sticker on the back of the one i retrieved. The local dealer ordered that part which showed up in the system as "mineral white" so i am hoping it will be matching color.

But you listed the badge? I had assumed it would have the R18 silver badge as part of the panel.

I will find out next week when it arrives.

This problem was not uncommon on the R1200C. I used the same cover keeper system using a thin wire.
