You could drill the top part by removing them, but what happens to all of the bits of metal laying around the engine from drilling?
Could this be a late April Fools joke?

Put the drill in reverse ( when drilling ) - no swarf in engine cavity.🤫

Well… inquiring minds.
Haven't arrived yet.... slow boat from China.... though... I've had more thinking time (went up the river camping last week, lots of drinking around the camp fire for 4 days)..... I'm thinking 2 or 3 of the ram tubes per side... definitely forward facing. Once the pair I ordered arrive I need to see if they will look stupid or cool before proceeding in any particular way. It is winter here (still rideable weather) so I might go all in if there's a chance it will look OK as a winter project.

Probably should decat as well. I'd like to get a set of headers to play with rather then butcher those on the bike though.

From the first drilled pic to the dyno post, I thought there was enough ‘hot air’ to make it pretty obvious; drilled lower case, no oil cooler required, 85 mph winds, etc etc. But it is the internet…

I personally enjoyed the reference to The Last Indian in my garage. Nice touch I thought.

So they arrived..... thinking of two.... buy a bit of carbon fibre plate, shape as a base to bond these to that then mount to the engine case. Will order a bit of plate now and go from there.

Interesting to see how the ECU will respond/adapt to the wild changes in intake air pressure. This was thé issue for sports bike engineers when ram air became the thing. They solved it by large volume ´still air´ plenum chambers. The R18 air filter box volume is little more than óne combustion cycle.
 
How does the dimensions of the carbon fiber piece, line up with the existing engine badge?
Of the same order.... but (as always nothing is simple) the air exit hole does not line up with the one(s) in the engine cover..... and you have the issue of how it will "screw" to the cover.... I intend to modify it and "bond" it to a "shaped" plate (ordered a sheet of carbon fibre for this purpose today).

My riding is in the 80 to 130kmh range .... so nothing to radical should happen pressure wise... just a bit more like the slots in the front cover really.

The ´gills´ are behind the front wheel/fork in a lower pressure area. Also the harmonicas throttle the flow. Next the ´vented´ air filter lid will equalize any fluctuations.
Cannot be compared with scoops feeding the filter. Hence interesting to see how it will pan out.
The mitigating circumstance is your use. At lowish throttle openings the air feed is a bit moot apart from the throttle respóns.

Don't confuse <130Kmh speeds with lowish throttle openings...... they are not related in my world... 😎.... I might even "feed" the air straight to the top of the filter now I think about it.

Imo 130 km/h is not gassing it by half even quite yet, but perception is both reality and relative.

´Pressure` (mild) washed the unpaved camino dirt off of mine this morning. Dried it with a chamois but that still leaves a lót of water in nooks and crannies so took it for a spin. Comando in linen shorts, t-shirt, woven ´sketcher´ type, open face helmet. No sun glasses, no gloves. As on the local road between villages only just topped 100 km/h. The point being that even the sidecar rig on short stretches need like max a third of throttle for thát.

I might even "feed" the air straight to the top of the filter now I think about it.

With the scoop feeding the filter space you already are. If you get it closer still, only the part of the filter under it would filter.

Point being to not take ´it´ all too seriously.

Saturday a night ride with some 100 or so Vespas with ´San Fermin´ theme. Buzzing over narrow mountain tracks, blocking x-roads for the group to ´safely´ pass. The average outfit, men and women, being white shorts, white short sleeved shirt, no socks in summer shoes, no gloves ah and red kerchief. Open faced helmet yes.
The start of the route was crisscrossing Lucena center a few times behind a police car light flashing. All beeping like no tomorrow.

And when I have shed some more volume yet and fit my sarong comfortably again, will too hop on the rig wearing it. More relaxed outfit attitude is one of the ´freedoms´ of a rig.

But nów going outdoors in the afternoon heat to collect my croc print leather waistcoat from the seamstress. Had to be modded a bit to fit my ti shoulder nicer.
