It was unreliable enough for me that I just stopped using reverse. In my experience, it only seemed to happen when I actually needed it to work. The bike seemed to know when I was just testing it in the driveway and when I actually was out and needed it to get out of wherever I was.
Looks simple enough. For me personally though, I've found that I don't need the visual afterall. I use bluetooth ear plugs for music anyway, and I find that the audio alone from my phone (stuffed in my pocket) navigation app provides richer instructions than even the NAV display on my R1250GS...

If it weren't for the fact that it didn't recharge on the tender, it definitely points to a charging system problem.
