What specifically is done on 600 mile dealership initial service?

Excellent thanks. Didn't know that about the short trips thing, but that's really all I've been doing for the 3 months I've owned it as I am getting used to this gorgeous whale of a bike.
 
I haven't read right to the end of this topic but for your 600mi initial service its vital to have the dealer or service agent carry it out. They'll be looking for any excessive filings or other oil abnormalities in the used oil which might signal an impending problem, or assure that all ist klaar. I'd never risk doing that one myself although I've been a mechanic for many years.

I wonder why the American home video presenters are always going to go ahead and do this, go ahead and do that and have gone ahead and done that? What is it with those guys, is it a replacement for ummm?

It’s called the American Spirit. And it has served us pretty well so far

Were you a mechanic at a NJ Jeep dealership...? You put a lot of trust in a mechanic that doesn't give two turds about your bike... See the below image of my Jeep mechanic, he's an idiot:

I am with you right there Dave ... although there are very good dealership mechanics (although way overpriced IMO) out there, there are just as many hacks that don't give a rats @$$ about your ride ... I do my work myself ... I do the best I can, with help from the collective forum brain trust and it has served me well ... and, at least I know who to blame if I f..k it up!

Dealership's work almost very nearly killed me, very recently.

The idiots improperly installed the crash bars, not torquing the top screws properly.

Omw home the vibration over smooth road slowly worked the screws out.

At 3/4 of the way home I notice the bar seem to wobble over a slight bump. I thought nah, just my imagination. Another mile down the road, same. I pulled over off the highway as soon as it was safe checked the bar.

It had about another 1/4 inch, the screw would have come off the top allowing it to swing down hit the pavement --best case scrape along the highway at 50-60 mph.. worse case (more likely) jam on the pavement forcing the bike up and to the side. CATASTROPHIC outcome.

I will never ever allow any f--ing dealer to do whatever I can do... I will always collect any replaced parts as well as inspect every detail WITH THEM before that bike leaves. Detailed pictures of the bike before dropping off and immediately on pick up.

No, I'm a heavy equipment mechanic but fix and service anything that needs it. I was referring to warranty conditions, not that I'd prefer anyone else to work on it.
