So I did the swap to the Clarton Horn PN#61338381271. I checked to see that the original was working. I plugged in the new horn and...nothing. Swapped it back to the original horn and...nothing. Did I blow a fuse or break the wire? Anyone else have similar issues?

Steve

So, upon further review, I broke a wire right at the connector...interesting...be careful removing it!

I fitted a Denali Soundbomb mini to my FE. straight swap and a huge improvement. Took 2 minutes.

I changed the wimpy horn on my 1250GSA a while back and it turns out, it was the same OEM horn on the R18. There is a "plug & play" BMW car horn that fits perfectly and is louder and deeper. The part is: Clarton Horn P/N: CN-61338381271

See before/ after videos below:

I did this Clarton horn replacement today, took less than 10 minutes and it fit perfectly. I pointed the horn between forward and down, at about a 45 degree angle so it would face as forward as possible and still drain any water easily. The difference in tone and volume was AMAZING! Best $30 I’ve spent.

The horn on the Roctane is properly loud, enough to make someone ‘jump’ and it has a decent tone. It looks like a horn, as in snail shell sort rather than the round UFO bog standard type I had on my previous R18FE. Not sure whether it’s a straight swap. Might be another option for people.

Same with my 2022 R18 B; I haven't had the urge, to upgrade the horn above and beyond the OEM horn.

I replaced the stock horn on my 2023 classic with the Clarton Horn PN#61338381271 and measured the decibels from both horns. They were about the same but the Clarion has a deeper tone but slightly quieter according to the decibel meter. I tried to upload the .mp4 file with the sound but I was getting an error saying they were too big even though they were less than 3mb.

I made that change recently and although I don’t have a decibel meter I didn’t need one. The sound from the Clarton was very obviously much louder than the stock one. Why yours wasn’t I couldn’t say, but the difference on mine is very obvious.

In the end. Spend more time evading and less time pushing the horn and you will live to ride another day. Mobility is the number 1 safety factor you have on a bike.
Agreed... I can't remember the last time I used the horn on any of my bikes...

Taking appropriate split second action in the form of Clutch, Brakes and Throttle control is total muscle memory and instinctive. I would really have to think about where my horn button is located on the control tree; when in reality, the event probably has already passed and hopefully been avoided.

Besides.. the Model B horn is pretty robust, swapping it out to something else is just wasted money in my view.

Well said. I happen to push my horn button once a year to see if it still works 🤪

I guess the traffic is better where you guys ride. I use my horn periodically to announce my presence to a driver obviously unaware in order to avoid impending doom and the stock wimpy horn just didn’t do it.
