Fuel Pump Whine

Back home - no resolution. I can't tell if the ambient sound was too high (there is a freeway overpass right next to the building), or just my bad luck, but I could not hear (or demonstrate) the whine to the tech. Soon as I get on the bike and jump on the freeway, there it is again.

Anyway, they know about it and said bring it back if/when you like.
Sounds like a loose nut behind the wheel.

Too sad. It would be nice to have a dealer opinion

Been hearing the same noise for a little while now. So I got my first R18 in October of 2020. No issues what’s so ever. Then picked up my 2nd R18 a month ago or so. Started hearing this same noise. It is RPM specific in my case. Mainly hear it if I am in a gear too high where the rpms are a bit too low for the speed and the noise becomes very pronounced and annoying. Today something much worse then the noise happened.

ridding back home from the office today the Bike started to drop RPMs until the engine shut off. I coasted to the side of the highway, restarted the bike and started ridding again. The same thing happened a few min. later.

just e-mailed my service adviser. Really hope this gets resolved.

I was at the dealership past tuesday.
They could observe the noise and told it's the first case they see.
They sold 6 R18 so far
Checked everything they could, and had no explanation.
So they sent a message to BMW France.
Waiting for the answer now.
They'd better answer fast, because the noise is now permanent.
🤨

I recorded the noise.
But Oops!
Impossible to upload the MP3 file so far which doesn't have the right extension...
Searching a solution ...
Probably have to take a video and put it on Youtube...
Coming.

Ok , done.

The noise is clearly audible.
But in live it's much more present.
Seems to come from under the tank and more on the right side.
The engine is idling on Rain mode.
To the member having it on their R18, do you recognise it?

For Memory, a sample of 1000 hertz sound:

Hello Gerard,
I can hear it clearly and it is exact the same noise on mine R18.
I will drive to my dealer as soon as possible, but I think it will last two weeks more.
I will report the statement of my dealer as soon as possible.

Do not forget to ask them for some cheese.
Tell them Cachorro Preto sent you.

Some clues and a solution here, other beemers, same trouble:

It makes sense

After 300km today the whine was permanent to hear.
I have recorded the noise for my dealer.
I find out, that if you switch off/on fast, with running engine that the pump will whine two seconds.

Do you mean while the engine's running you switch it off with the red tile ?
Could you post your record of the noise ?
