Recall? On all models with Reverse

My bike is stock, didn’t have opportunity to ask exactly what’s changed because my bike was done at the dealership and taken there from home & returned to me. The workshop manager did say over the phone the bike had to be upgraded with the new parts. Guess that means ECU update from the mothership. I’ve tried reverse, can’t detect anything different, works just as it did before. Lever down, R on the dash, press the starter, back you go. Stop. Lever up. Dash clears.
Yup, that is it.

Will attempt to reinstall my map from BT Moto as soon as I have time. Removed it from the bike prior to sending in for recall.

Since they are updating the software, it would be nice if BMW would add a software button to the main screen that would jump you straight to the heated seat and grips controls. There should have been a physical button, but in lieu of that, a software link would be the next best thing.

I thought I read somewhere that the 2025 Model B and TC might use the Lock Button as short cut to the Heated Grips-Seat menu? If true, I'm curious if these enhancements will make there way into the earlier year models via software?

I'll have to compare my bike's software after the Reverse fix is completed; however, I don't think my dealership has ever advanced my software since purchased stock.

It would be great if the BMW Connect App would perform such software updates on the bike; while using the App and riding in the background.

Below is what I reported a while back in April of 2023, when I was "Deleted member 1618"

That would be a really good solution if they could make that work.

It’s BMW Marshall Laceby. Tbh I’d cancel your appointment and tell them to get back in touch when the fix is ready, especially as you aren’t bothered about the compensation. Anibal is having his bike fixed today so the fix is definitely ‘out’ in the UK.
Thanks for getting back and I'll be taking your advice 😀👍

Ok, no BT for me. There was a firmware update because part of the consist of installing a relay and the ECU needs to know there is a new part installed. The OEM set up has the reverse module constantly receiving power, whether on use or not and activated when the reverse gear is selected. The new set up only gives power to the module once the reverse gear is selected, thus minimising the amount of time the module receives power. I also understand that the module itself is the same, just slightly improved to prevent moisture retention.
Funny thing is that it did not test the system when I got home, I totally forgot about it. I got drenched on my way home and my bike super dirty with salt and grime from the roads. Will clean it first thing and test the reverse.
Just tried to reinstall my BT but not having it. My handheld did not recognise the current ECU map, which again confirms there has been a flash carried out.
$200 for Brentune to send me a revised map. If I had not removed the modified map before sending in, I would owe Brentune $400.

Uffff, what a royal pita.
I have just now, emailed Brentune to see what my next steps will be.
The big deal is on a personal level I am all Apple. Brentune do not support Apple.
My company PC will not allow downloads from unknown sources.
Sourcing a PC that someone will let me download files they don't understand, will be my biggest challenge.
Even though I question the tune being worth the current asking price, I would miss not having it.

WOW!!!
Within 15 mins, had a reply. Please see below if you have previously purchased and installed the Brentune files.

If the bike goes to the dealer be sure to put the stock tune on before the dealer visit via work - writing - original. If they update the ECU we'll need to retune it.

If they don't update the ECU you can just go right back to the previously tuned file.

If you are unsure or don't get a clear answer from the dealer you can try to write the tuned file again, if it loads in you didn't get updated, if it gives an error of file incompatible you'll know the bike got updated.

Link below for the reset you need to purchase if it gets updated.

I have a link to my full device reset FAQ below.

I hear you. If this going to cost you $200.00 every time BMW decides to release an update then the BT is not cost effective. I would have thought that a company that sells mappings would keep a track of the manufacturer’s new releases and adapt their mappings to it, or do you think this is how they will make their money?

We need some official word on this. That is not how the package was ‘sold’

Inquiry to Bt on the way. Will update with response.

I can sort of agree. I guess that in the modern age, each bike will have so many updates that to keep abreast of it all, they would spend as much time on modifications as they would on developing software. I can just about stretch to the $200.00 as the map really does smooth everything out. If it happened again, it might be a different matter. Maybe fortunate in that BMW unlikely to be concentrating too much on upgrades to the R18 / R18 Classic.

Fwiw.... I'm about to tune mine and will be getting the reverse fix later in the year when I get my first "free service" as part of the reverse compensation package. The "$320aud" I will have to pay for the retune is in my mind offset by the free service I got for 3 years.... and I want to enjoy the best version of my R18 now.

Is it $400 if you don’t un-tune? I thought it was $200 for either case.

Sucks though, and I should have waited after they removed my reverse wires to redo the BT. I’ll be asking BT for an update whenever they get to the fix here in the states. Impatience gonna cost me yet again.
