Fuel Pump Whine

Hello,

i was at the BMW dealer.
The technician has heard and admitted the noise.
I have to open a service case about that problem.
Then they will wait for answer from BMW headquarter what to do.
Maybe changing the fuel pump?
The dealer has no informations about bad fuel-pumps yet.
In fact, they have seen only two R18, mine and their own show bike.

Guys,

Anyone have any updates at all on the issue. I dropped mine off at my BMW service center @ Cross Country BMW in NJ last week. Nothing yet. The service Mananger did say he hears what I am talking about but nothing from BMW Corporate yet.

The dealer ask the headquarter what to do.
If they change the pump and the noise is gone, all is good.
If not, they will ask to change another thing, and so on.....

My dealer has no clue yet.

Please post your informations.

I have gotten accustomed to this wine, and find it rather humorous.
As usual, I agree with Black Dog. Maybe it's just because I covet his plane. In any case, you can only hear it when you're at a stop idling. It's a reminder to me to spend less time idling and more time moving. My dealer said that if it ends up being an issue with fuel pump failures, they'd cover it. In the mean time, the bikes on their floor sounded the same (I don't know why I didn't notice it initially...) I just chalk it up to how the bike sounds. Let's face it, even without the whine, the air intake sound (which is similar to my old R1200C) is it's own unique thing...

No, the noise is here all the time on mine.
Loud and painful.
At city speed it kills the pleasure of riding.
May be different on your bike.
I can't wait for the change.

I got it back.
They kept it several days because they broke the fuel connector when taking the tank off and had to order for a new one ...

So The fuel pump is new.
The noise is now hardly perceptible.
But still here when I get one ear on the tank.
If it stays like that it's ok for me.
But ...
Ok let's see what happens...

By the way they gave me an almost new 1250 GS for the time of the repair.
Not at all my type of bike, too high, ugly, I don't like the riding position etc...
But : when you start moving, what a bike !
Excellent suspension and braking!
I can understand why they sell so many of them.

It's a great do-everything bike, function before form for sure!

No fuel pump whine or wind buffeting :)

Just started to ear that hi freq noise today . :(. It s low level and stops direct when i swith off the engine . I tought i might be lucky ! But no . 1800km on the bike . and the front turn indicator holder rusted as well ..
I guess BMW starts to ear a bit about this and might try to sort this issue . not replacing a faulty part with another faulty one ! hopefully.

I hope it will stay quit.
No wonder they broke the connector. It is so fumbling to disconnect it. And it is for sure the first time they had to do this on a R18.
I have made a special tool to push the connector off.

I have opened a case about the fuel pump by the BMW dealer. He has made a short video to document the noise. He will send it to the BMW headquarter, and they will say what to do next.

I'm waiting to see what the dealers do in these cases. The whine only started a bit ago. Up to about 400 miles no noise. Then one day I started it up and I thought a neighbor was doing something. After several miles I realized it was coming from the R18. For me it seems after warming up, it's less noticeable. What bugs me is the "pitch" of the whine. It's high and that bothers me. Maybe I'm more sensitive to that particular pitch. But I'd like it to be "gone"!
