What did you do to your R18 today?

What did I do today? Stood in the garage and looked at the front fender and asked myself - Is it possible to mount it the other way around? So I tried it and I actually think it looks pretty ok. What do you guys think?

It will probably protect the engine a little better and it kind of opens up the front wheel a bit. Looks somewhat older also. It would need some trimming in the front to be perfect but I think it will do for now.1000006136.jpg

Reversing the fender does look like it covers more of the engine plate, but agree it looks a little blocky in front now. The generic fender extension that I recently added to my Pure has a similar tapered shape as your now "backwards" Roctane fender. Wonder what it would look like on your bike?

I'll probably go with the same one you got.

The DK Design one is $140. with shipping --for a piece of plastic and the seller is quite the ornery ass grump. He had an issue with me asking about the logo and wanting to see it in detail. 4 or 5 emails later he wouldn't send a simple detail picture of it. CYA.

Very good, Witsend. I'd make sure you add "Rocktane R18" to your search to find an extension that's compatible for your bike. Out of curiosity, I priced a Roctane fender on Max BMW microfiche in Manhattan Matte, and it was $900 plus, which is a pretty hefty replacement price to pay if you mess up experimenting with trimming your fender. :)

Thanks... The only thing I really dislike about the few mud guards avail for the R18's (except the DK Design one) is they all have a slight curve outward at the bottom end. Nor do I like the 2 ridges ... picky picky picky I know.
:ROFLMAO:

I am going to buy one anyway and see if I can trim the outward curve part off and hopefully still have plenty of protection. I'm not drilling anything into the actual fender. Hoping super strong 3M tape wil do the trick.mudflap.jpg

Yes, trimming with a variable speed scroll saw and sanding with a Dremel tool would easily remove that flared lip without reducing its effective length too much. I was surprised how well it fit my Pure's fender where it attaches underneath, and the double sided 3M tape has worked well so far because it has a large contact surface. It's a glossy black plastic, but it could easily be primed and sprayed with color-matched paint. TouchUpDirect is a good source for touch-up paint. For me it's just not that noticeable in the larger picture of things, but it does help keep road splash off the engine cover and oil cooler.

Interesting how you were able to get that license plate. I was trying to select ROT18, or RED18 and the NJ MVC said combinations of 3 letters & 2 numbers were reserved for special use by government officials. I ended up with BGBXR

Yeah... I remember some weird rules between 0 - 20 being used on the License Plate... I don't think I was allowed to use the two following examples:

R18
R18 B

In the UK the rules are even tougher when it comes to number plates. The numbers have to play in a certain way given that the numbers are determined by the year the vehicle was registered. You are not allowed to add digits that imply the vehicle is newer. In my case I was in luck because the bike was registered in 2022 so I was able to use R18 JUG. Surely someone could think the bike was registered in 2018 but I don’t care about that, I got a sweet combination but I was not allowed to add a “S” at the end to make it R18 JUGS. Oh well, c’est la vie.

Utopia rider backrest in “Sport” size and a 19” 7Jurock smoked windscreen. Happy with both so far. Both the 7Jurock and Utopia were top notch quality.

Quick and dirty Kern-Stabi holder. This thing was always on the floor when not in use, hard to lean against the wall because the wheels roll.
You install the coupling PIN every time you put your bike up on the KERN-STABI?

I installed the coupling PIN with some Blue Locktite, so that I don't lose ANOTHER coupling PIN...

Yes, I just screw it in hand tight when I use it. I have forgotten to remove it before a ride, surprised I haven’t lost it yet. Hopefully having a dedicated storage place will help me remember

Had my bike taken in for 1st service at Marshall BMW Grimsby. Have to say the whole thing was terrific, really friendly, all done on time, £174 which I am very happy with. For comparison a good friend recently had his Yamaha XSR700 done at his dealer, also a 1st service and he paid £150. I know some dealers (especially in the US) get a shellacking for poor service & high costs but Ive only ever had really excellent service here so wanted to mention it on the forum for the benefit of others maybe interested in buying a R18 (and the likely running costs).
