    R18 - Aftermarket ECU options

I have been reading through this thread following some recent Comments. I can only commend BT Moto for being remarkably patient and courteous in their replies. My cot would have been empty many posts ago. Even the mattress would have gone, and the teddy decapitated by now. And I count...

    BMW R20 Concept

H-D does not do a 160 ci crate engine. https://www.motoamerica.com/tech-tuesday-harley-davidson-screamin-eagle-135ci-stage-iv-performance-crate-engine/ Besides, I think that 135 ci is probably as far as I'd like to go with an air-oil-cooled V-twin. I appreciate that the Moonshine 143 is very...

    BMW R20 Concept

There is a lot to read about the internals. I added a link to my first reply to get you started :) Since I bought the R18, I have purchased two more Harleys. It was my first BMW (motorcycle) but also my last one.

Both the H-D M8 and BMW R18 motors feature four valves per cylinder. The number of cams is mainly irrelevant - both are pushrod, not OHC. The H-D has hydraulic lifters, implying no periodic valve adjustment requirement.

    BMW R20 Concept

The H-D 135 CI Crate Engine is a bit larger, in fact - circa 2212 cc, meaning 1106 cc per cylinder. Whoever installs them rides them hard. And with no reliability issues. I got the Chrome version to install on my Electra Glide...

    IDLES LIKE CRAP IN ROCK

BT Moto suspecting 'fire order change' probably means that in Rock Mode, the R18 ECU might be firing on each cylinder upstroke, not only every second upstroke, like the older loping Harleys did—or randomly in that vein.

What did you do to your R18 today?

Very well thought through. Tastefully minimalist with lots of attention in the details. I have finally made a start with mine. Totally different objective, almost opposite to yours - two-up with lots of chrome. No hurry since I am also working on two others.

    Show Us Your R18

Flovely, but it is crying out for beach bars. And those headers will look awesome ceramic coated rather than wrapped. I've learnt a hard lesson wrapping an exhaust and will never even consider it again.

    R18 vs Harley

Touché. Those limited runs, like racing results, buy headlines, admiration and recognition. And pull (first world) little people into the showrooms. MV, Buell and Motus are textbook examples that good engineers often s4ck in business. I own two Buells, a 2006 XB12Ss and a 2008 XB12S, as well...

    R18 vs Harley

The 2024 CVO Street/Road Glides feature fully up-to-date tech, upside-down forks, axially mounted front brake calipers, variable valve timing and a range of other improvements and tweaks trickling down from Bagger Racing, as well as electric windshields, brilliant lighting, etc. The regular...

New name contemplated for the R18?

Trick question. There are eleven languages spoken in South Africa. English and ten ethnic languages, of which Zulu, Xhosa and Afrikaans are most widely used. Most South Africans can speak at least two languages. The competition is seeking to rename all five R18 models, perhaps more aligned...

New name contemplated for the R18?

There is a competition running on BMW Motorrad's SA website to rename the R18 (?). I had a quick look but did not see it on the US or UK sites. https://www.bmw-motorrad.co.za/en/experience/r18-rename-competition/r18-rename-competition-entry.html

    Iconic Pictures with R18

Here's my 2014 Cross Country Street - step brothers (-: Recent photo. I've obviously added to it over the years, including a 600W (RMS) amp and matching speakers. Lots of cabling inside those 14" Paul Yaffe apes. Apes and their owners are often dissed on forums, this one in particular...

Possible Switch From Indian Chief Vintage to 2022 BMW R18 B

Agreed. I own both a Chief Vintage and an R18 FE. I am lucky enough to also own a Victory Cross Country Street, an H-D Electra Glide Revival and a Honda Goldwing, amongst some others. If I were forced to sell one amongst those named, it would be the R18. If I could keep only one, it would be...

    IDLES LIKE CRAP IN ROCK

R18-NIOC. David R, Pork Rind, and you are textbook Panic-Mechanics. So, you are worried that Rock Mode could make your Adaptive Headlight, Bolts & Nuts and Steering Head Bearings fail (?). WTF. I am also an engineer, and I have owned and wrenched motorcycles for 51 years. The R18 exhibits...
